Abstract
In order to find the various effects of air pollution on the health, many different approaches have been employed.
Especially the question about effects of air pollution on children¢¥s pulmonary functions have some significance in the medical community.
We, the research team, have selected subjects from two different regions. The subject group I is taken from Guro elementary school in Seoul where the air pollution is extremely high. The subject group 2 is taken from Yeoju and Ganam elementary schools in Yeoju Gun where the air pollution is extremely lower than Seoul¢¥s.
From the above schools, the total of 1,606 children, 824 from 2nd grade (mostly 7-8 years old) and 782 from 5th grade (mostly 10-11 years old) have been selected.
Status of physique(i,e, : height, weight, chest girth) and pulmonary functions(i,e, : FVC, FEV1.0, FEVO.75, MEFR) have been measured and the data taken from Seoul area and Yeoju area were compared statistically.
From height, weight, and chest-girth adjusted pulmonary function data we have found out that pulmonary function of both boys and girls of 5th grade of Seoul area does not show significant difference with that of Yeoju area, but pulmonary function of both boys and girls of 2nd grade of Seoul area is significantly lower than that of Yeoju area.
